Polar Pacer Pro vs Vantage M2 vs V2: which watch should you choose? (2023)

A few days ago, Polar introduced a revival of its decades-old Pacer line. The new devices are available in the form of two watches – Polar Pacer and Polar Pacer Pro (see price onAmazonas). The first is an entry-level model, the second is a watch for advanced runners.

This confuses the situation a bit as there isn't too much that separates these new timepieces from the Vantage M2. And let's not forget the more powerful Vantage V2. Does this offer better value for money than the new Pacer duo?

We are here to help. Read on as we explore the differences between all of these watches.

Polar Pacer Pro vs. Vantage M2 vs. V2: Technical Data

see and feel

The Pacer and Vantage series look pretty similar. These are sporty looking round watches with two physical buttons on the left and three on the right. There are some visual differences between them, but nothing to write home about.

The dimensions suggest that the Pacer line is more of a unisex watch. Its two devices are 45mm in diameter and just 11.5mm deep. The Vantage M2 is slightly larger at 46 x 46 x 12.5mm and then there's the Vantage V2 which is the largest at 47 x 47 x 13.0mm. The Pacer line is also lighter than Vantage watches.

(Video) Polar Pacer PRO VS Polar Vantage M2 Comparison [Which should you buy!]

As for the screen, they all have a 1.2-inch color display that never goes dark. However, only the one on Vantage V2 is touch-sensitive. That means you only have to rely on the button configuration to navigate each other's menus. Not too much of a problem - those who run or bike often actually prefer it. Try navigating a touch display with sweaty fingers - it's not easy! The Vantage V2's touchscreen is useful for smart functions, scrolling through longer menus or pages, or reaching quick settings.

It is worth noting that the screen backlight on the Pacer and Pacer Pro is 10 times more efficient than other Polar watches. This helps extend battery life. And the display offers a sharper viewing experience.

There are also some notable differences in construction. The Pacer duo has a plastic body, while the Pro line sports a snazzy aerospace aluminum bezel around it. This type of construction helps keep the price down. The body of the Vantage M2, on the other hand, is made of stainless steel, while the entire body of the V2 is made of aerospace-grade aluminum alloy.

If water resistance is important to you, you'll be happy to know that you can swim with any of these watches. However, Vantage V2 is good to a depth of 100 meters, the Pacer duo to 50 meters and Vantage M2 to 30 meters. There are slight differences.

Finally, all of these watches offer a choice of color options. They also have a quick release strap so you can swap it out for other options. The Vantage V2 SHIFT Edition and the Pacer Pro have a so-called SHIFT adapter. This allows you to adopt any standard strap to attach to the watch.

(Video) Polar Pacer Pro - Just as Good as Polar Vantage V2?

Under the hood

The Vantage M2 is a more budget-friendly version of the high-end Vantage V2 watch. As mentioned, both the Pacer and Pacer Pro are pretty similar to the M2 in specs. One wonders if Polar plans to ditch the M2 as the new watches offer better value for money.

Sensor-wise, all of these watches are satellite-enabled (GPS, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS), meaning you can forget about your smartphone while exercising outdoors. They also have an accelerometer and a heart rate sensor. The one on the newer watches is of course more up-to-date (it also has two LEDs). In addition, the Pacer Pro and Vantage V2 also have a barometer and a compass.

According to Polar, the Pacer and Pacer Pro are equipped with an upgraded high-speed processor, so they work faster and smoother than their other watches. They also have more internal storage, which should help with that.

Finally, there's the all-important battery life. We are happy to report that all of these watches perform well in this regard. The M2 is the underperformer, offering around 5 days in smartwatch mode and 30 hours in training mode (with GPS). The Pacers sit in the middle at around a week in smartwatch mode and 35 hours in training mode. The starter is the V2, which offers a week in smartwatch mode and 40 hours in training mode.

Here is a table with the main specifications.

Polar Pacer Pro vs. Vantage M2 vs. V2: Funktionen

Anyone who owns a Polar sports watch knows that they are wearing a powerful device on their wrist. The company is a specialist in this field along with Garmin, Suunto and a handful of other names. Polar may have the lead in recovery stats. They're pretty detailed and provide everything you need to know about how ready you are for another day of training.

But even if you're not too serious about exercising, these watches offer a nice array of activity-training features. No SpO2, but for everything else you have 24/7 protection.

As with battery life, the Vantage M2 is the underperformer. It doesn't offer anything really special compared to the others, but it does lack Strava live segments and the heart rate monitor mode found on the other three watches. It's also missing Hill Splitter, Komoot route planning, route and elevation profiles, wrist-based mileage, and some of the performance tests of the Pacer Pro and Vantage V2.

Of course, the Vantage V2 is the most powerful of them all, but that's no surprise considering its price. It's the only one with Recovery Pro metrics, Orthostatic Test, Leg Recovery Test, and Track Back.

But it misses the new walk test. It will be interesting to see if this comes via a software update. It would be logical to expect this.

(Video) 10 Critical Difference Between the Polar Vantage V2 & M2

With this test you can measure VO2Max in 15 minutes - simply by walking. Most watches only allow you to do this by running, so this is an easier way to measure. According to Polar, the walk test is a "lightweight test to assess aerobic fitness by taking a brisk 15-minute walk on a flat path."

There's no built-in music storage on either of these watches, but you do get standard music controls. Many people like to train with music. This is in addition to the ability to view weather forecasts and smartphone notifications. Notably, the Pacer line has the ability to receive smartphone notifications during workouts - which is new.

Polar Pacer Pro vs Vantage M2 vs V2: Which should you choose?

Polar now has a lot of nice options if you're looking for a runner or triathlon watch. The Vantage M2 and Pacer Pro are priced identically (check current price on Amazon:Pacer Pro,Advantage M2). But you get more bang for your buck if you go with the Pacer Pro option. So much so that not seeing a Vantage M3 wouldn't really surprise us. Polar could kill this watch.

Pacer Pro and even Pacer, which retails for $100 less, offer pretty much everything you can get on the M2. If you don't mind the less premium build and slightly smaller diameter of the watches, that is. The extras come in the form of additional performance tests, Strava Live Segments, faster clocks, clearer displays, and better battery life. On Pacer Pro you also get a barometer, a compass, mileage from the wrist and a few other bits and pieces.

If you're looking for a new watch and are at odds between the two, that's a no-brainer. Choose Pacer Pro. There's no point in buying the M2. Or save a few bucks and go for Pacer's little brother.

(Video) Polar Ignite 2 vs. Polar Vantage M2 Comparison|You Have To Know This Befor Buying! Sportwatch Review

Is it worth switching from the Vantage M2 to the Pacer Pro? It may be better if you only use your current watch until its expiry date. Unless the additional functions are important to you.

And let's not forget the Vantage V2. It is a very powerful device that offers the best processing with its touch display and the most powerful specifications. But it's a bit more expensive than the other options (check the current price onAmazonas). If you're a serious runner, the Pacer or Pacer Pro offer better value for money. If you're a CrossFitter or similar, the V2 might be for you with its orthostatic test.
